The University of Benin, Benin – City is to confer on the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II the honorary doctor of law (L.LD) Honoris Causa in a special convocation on Friday, 23 November, 2018.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faraday Osasere Orumwense made the disclosure when he led other members of management to brief the media on the events out lined for the 44th Convocation/48th Founder’s Day of the University, last week.
Also, on Saturday, 24 November, 2018, the University will confer the degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) Honoris Causa on the Archbishop, Church of God Mission International, and Chancellor, Benson Idahosa University, His Grace, Most Reverend Margaret Ekhoe Benson Idahosa.
The Archbishop will be honoured for her outstanding contributions to education and human development in Nigeria, the Vice Chancellor said.
While, a senior Professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Medicine, College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, Professor Augustine Alenezela Enomwoghomwenma Orhue will be conferred the title: Professor Emeritus.
Orumwense outlined; the various events will begin on Monday, 19 November, 2018 with an interdenominational Service at 9.00am.
This is to be followed by the convocation lecture to be delivered by the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Suleiman Bogoro.
On day two: Thursday, 22 November, 2018, presentation of prizes, and award of certificates, Diplomas and first degrees will be done.
As it has become deliberate policy of the Orumwense administration, an alumnus of the University, former managing director of Access Bank Plc, Aigboje Aig – Imoukhuede will deliver the Founder’s Day lecture.
The events will climax on Saturday, 24 November, 2018 with inauguration of projects executed by the Orumwense administration, and presentation of prizes, award of Post Graduate Diplomas, and conferment of higher degrees, (Masters and Doctorate).
At this year’s convocation, a total of 11, 832 graduands are to be awarded various diplomas and degrees of the University.
Among this number, 134 bags first class degree.
Others: Doctorate degree (P.hD) – 240; Masters degree – 2, 207; Second class upper degree – 2, 122; second class lower degree – 4, 864; Third class degree – 1, 156; Pass degree – 1; Aegorate degree – nill; Diploma – 83; Unclassified – 426.
Orumwense asserted that the University under his leadership has continued to enjoy peace on campus due to synergy of various positive factors.
While he reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of members of staff and students.
