• Urge Legislators to resist “pressure from outside”

The Emeka Beke led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has rejected the impeachment move by the State House of Assembly against the Governor, Simi Fubura.
The faction thus urged the State House of Assembly to resist moves to “destabilise” the Fubara’s government.
This was in reaction to the commencement of impeachment proceedings against the Governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu on Thursday, during plenary.
Initiating the impeachment, speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule accused the Governor and his deputy of being a threat to democracy.
The faction in a statement by its spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju on Thursday said attention of the APC had been drawn to what it termed: “latest unfortunate developments” from the State House of Assembly.
Though, it acknowledged that the legislature is an independent arm of government with constitutional powers of checks and balances.
But, said it “solemnly reject[s] the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy”.
Adding; that it would be wrong for the Party to remain silent in the face of “obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP” been allowed to resurface in the APC.
Noting the impeachment threat was centred on the budget, the APC faction recalled that during the period of emergency rule, an appropriation bill was transmitted to the national assembly in May 2025.
The budget which totalled N1.485 trillion was approved by the senate on June 25, 2025, and by the House of Representatives on July 22, 2025.
Further, it held that the budget was designed to run for one year until August 2026 therefore, if the Governor was comfortable with its composition, he could choose not to present a supplementary budget.
As the constitution allows a six-month spending window into a new fiscal year by a State Governor, the APC faction pointed out.
Hence members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, especially those from the party, should resist “pressures from outside the Assembly Chambers to destabilise the government of Rivers State”, it urged.
The faction asserts, the Party would “do everything possible to ensure that the government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised through fratricidal disagreements”.
It consequently called on the lawmakers, particularly those of the APC to immediately stop the impeachment process.
Warning that it could “drag the image of our great party to the mud and stifle the continuous progress and development of Rivers State.
“Let our State remain a democracy and not a politicocracy!!!”
