In a couple of hours away, the Nigeria Super Eagles will lurk horns with the Atlas Lions of Morocco in Rabat, in the semi final game of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In solidarity, the Federal Government has reportedly thrown its weight behind the team urging; they should play with confidence, unity, and national pride.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, delivered the message on Wednesday, 14 January, it was said.
The Federal Government commended the team for their discipline, courage, and resilience throughout the tournament.
“As you prepare to face Morocco in the AFCON semi-finals, I want you to know that the whole of Nigeria stands firmly with you. You have been here before; you know what it takes to win at this level.”
Idris was said to had looked back at the team’s previous performance in the AFCON and reminded the players that past successes were the result of teamwork, belief, and determination.
“Those victories were not accidents; they came from teamwork, confidence, and a fighting spirit, and you have shown that same spirit in this tournament.”
The minister was said to have emphasized that the players carry more than the national flag; they carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians.
“As you step onto the pitch, remember that you are not alone; you carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians.”
Idris urged the squad to remain focused and united while playing with the heart of champions.
Expressing confidence in the team’s quality, he advised; “Stay focused, trust one another, and give your best from the first whistle to the last.
“You have earned your place at the semi-final stage and possess the quality to go further in the competition.
“Tonight, go out there and write another proud chapter in our football story. Play with heart, play with pride, play for Nigeria,” Idris was quoted to have urged.
The Super Eagles will face Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat at 9pm Nigerian time on Wednesday, with a place in the AFCON final at stake.
