The Ward Congresses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State Chapter to elect new executives, peacefully held across the 192 wards and 18 Local Government Area on Wednesday, 18 February, 2026.
The Congress done through consensus and affirmation, was monitored by officials of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC), and supervised by officials from the Party Headquarters in Abuja.
Election of party new ward executives across the nation set a fresh tone of activities, and operations ahead of subsequent elections beginning with the Ekiti and Osun States governorship election later this year, and the national elections in 2027.
Briefing journalists later in the day, acting State Chairman, Emperor Jarett Tenebe hailed
the entire process which he described as “yet another watershed in the political evolution” of Edo State.
“Today, we celebrate not just the successful conduct of a party exercise, but the reaffirmation of our collective commitment to unity, cohesion, transparency, and inclusivity.”
As the largest political party in Africa, the APC Tenebe asserts; “bears a sacred responsibility to set the pace in strengthening democratic culture within, before it can be effectively championed without.
“The orderly and rancour free conduct of our ward congresses, is a clear evidence that we are institutionalising internal democracy in its truest form.”
The acting State Chairman noted that the peaceful outcome of the congresses was a result of the State APC strict adherence to the guidelines set by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party.
Therefore congratulating the newly elected executives, he charged; “your emergence is not merely a victory, it is a call to greater service. Your task has just begun!”
As he acknowledged; the ward remains the bedrock of the Party structure and closest arm to the grassroots; which determines outcomes at both the State and national levels.
“You are therefore entrusted with the sacred duty of deepening party structures at the grassroots, mobilising our people, and ensuring that the policies and programmes of our party resonate meaningfully within your communities.”
Tenebe further tasked the new executives on massive mobilisation of voters registration in the ongoing INEC registration exercise across the country.
This he stressed is important towards actualising the 3.5 million votes the State governor, Monday Okpebholo promised the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“The strength of democracy lies in the ballot, and the ballot begins with registration.”
Continuing, he urged the sustenance of the values of discipline, unity, and strategic organisation in the State APC.
“Unity must not be seasonal; it must be permanent. Discipline must not be optional; it must be foundational“, Tenebe emphasized.
As he added; “the success of the ward Congress is not the end of a journey, but it is the beginning of a renewed phase of consolidation and expansion.”
