Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah has been inducted as patron of the Mobile Foundation for Health, Security and Rehabilitation (MHSR).
The induction follows the recognition of her distinguished leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing the welfare of women, and vulnerable persons in the State.
The event was held during the Foundation’s members visit to the Commissioner’s office as part of efforts to formally present a proposed two-year project titled: “Ivîē Ñ’ Óvbiédô Ñé Khíéñ Yówà” (Restoring the Dignity of the Forgotten Women of Edo State), while soliciting the Ministry’s collaboration.
This was made known in a press release by the Ministry’s director of media, Daisy Osunde and circulated amongst journalists in Benin, weekend.
Meanwhile, the Foundation has been assured of the Ministry’s readiness to partner on its development initiative, aimed at restoring dignity and improving the welfare of women and other vulnerable persons across the State.
Commissioner Abdallah was said to have welcomed the initiative, describing the proposed collaboration as timely and in line with the ministry’s mandate.
The ministry is committed to exploring avenues for partnerships that would help drive its agenda more effectively, she was quoted to have said.
Adding; that its broad scope covers women, children, families, people living with disabilities, and vulnerable persons.
While she noted that outreach-focused Non-governmental organization such as MHSR would significantly strengthen its impact at the grassroots level.
The Commissioner was said to have expressed satisfaction with the mobile nature of the foundation’s operations, stating that taking services directly to communities reflects the core objectives of the State government’s development agenda.
As she reiterated that the ‘SHINE Agenda’ of Sen. Monday Okpebholo is anchored on inclusive governance, people-centered development, and innovative partnerships that drive sustainable impact.
The State government remains open to working with reputable organizations whose objectives align with improving social outcomes and strengthening support systems for vulnerable residents across the State, she emphasized.
Also speaking during the meeting, the Founder of MHSR, Ozo Osahon Michael outlined the Foundation’s core mandate of improving the wellbeing of marginalized and underserved communities.
He explained that MHSR’s interventions cut across both male and female sex including persons experiencing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), persons living with HIV, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups who often face barriers to accessing essential services.
Further, he informed that the proposed project is designed to strengthen referral linkages between community-based structures and formal health and social service facilities, ensuring timely and coordinated support for those in need.
In the same vein, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Edo State Chapter, Comrade Joseph Wasah, highlighted the role of organised labour in promoting social justice and protecting the rights of vulnerable populations.
Wasah stressed the need for continuous advocacy and multi-stakeholder partnerships, particularly with credible NGOs, to complement government efforts, commending the Ministry for its proactive approach to addressing the needs of vulnerable persons.
