The Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), has conferred on Edo State commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah the honour of an ambassador.
Also, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien.
The honour was in recognition of their unwavering support for initiatives that promote tax awareness, women’s empowerment, and inclusive socio-economic development, it was said.
Daisy Osunde, director of media in the ministry made this known in a press release circulated amongst journalists, in Benin on Tuesday, 7 April, 2026.
According to Osunde, Edo State Chapter of the Society conferred the honour on the duo during a courtesy visit to the Ministry, in Benin-City.
Both parties: ‘the Society and the ministry’ also explored opportunities for strategic collaboration.
While speaking, the Commissioner, Mrs. Abdallah represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ihensekhien, expressed appreciation for the recognition, and commended SWIT for its consistent efforts in educating women and the broader public, on the importance of taxation as a critical tool for development.
Mrs. Abdallah was quoted to have emphasized that taxation remains a vital pillar for sustainable governance.
While pointing out that tax reforms by the State government are carefully designed to strengthen public institutions, enhance service delivery, and improve the overall quality of life for citizens.
She stated; that when citizens especially women, are properly informed about their civic responsibilities, they are better positioned to contribute meaningfully to societal growth.
The Commissioner further stated that empowering women with knowledge of taxation do not only promote compliance, but also foster accountability and transparency.
As She assured SWIT of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate on relevant initiatives.
Earlier, the National Chairperson of the Society, Chief Dr. Caroline Ndubuisi highlighted its mission and structure as She addressed the host.
She explained that SWIT; the female arm of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, is committed to encouraging and assisting women in entering the tax profession, promoting excellence, continuous education, and increased tax awareness across various sectors of the economy.
She stressed that the Society’s goal is to foster integrity, inclusivity, and sustainable growth within the tax system.
Continuing, Dr. Ndubuisi reiterated SWIT’s readiness to partner with the Ministry in key areas such as taxpayer education, policy advocacy, and revenue optimization.
