The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter, has felicitated Nigerians on this year’s edition of Democracy Day: ‘June 12’.
The Party says as the nation celebrates, Nigerians must not forget the foundation which it describes as a milestone.
The APC conveyed its felicitations message in a statement endorsed by the Party’s State Publicity Secretary, Prince Peter Uwadiae Enosoregbe Igbinigie and circulated amongst journalists in Benin, weekend.

On this historic occasion of Democracy Day, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter, extends its warmest felicitations to all Nigerians, and most especially, the resilient and vibrant people of Edo State.
Today is not merely a holiday; it is a profound testament to the triumph of the collective will of the Nigerian people over autocratic rule.
As we celebrate today, we must look back to the foundation of this milestone.
Democracy Day stands as an eternal monument to the historic presidential election of June 12, 1993 an election widely regarded as the freest, fairest, and most peaceful in our nation’s history.
It was a day when Nigerians deliberately fractured ethnic, religious, and regional fault lines to speak with one thunderous, unified voice in choosing Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola as their president.
The subsequent annulment of that mandate triggered a fierce, relentless struggle for the restoration of civil rule.
Many of our compatriots paid the ultimate price, while others endured unjust incarcerations to ensure that the flame of liberty was not extinguished.
It is in sacred memory of these heroes of democracy and to correct the historical distortions of the past, that the APC-led Federal Government officially declared June 12 as Nigeria’s true Democracy Day.
By doing so, our nation permanently institutionalized the values of justice, equity, and the sanctity of the ballot box.
As a progressive party, the APC in Edo State recognizes that the best way to honor the sacrifices of our democratic pioneers is to deliver governance that genuinely serves the populace.
Democracy loses its essence if it does not translate into tangible economic development, security, qualitative education, accessible healthcare, and robust infrastructural growth.
As we stand on the threshold of a defining political season in our state, the Edo APC remains unyielding in its commitment to deep seated democratic ideals.
We urge the good people of Edo State to remain vigilant, peaceful, and active participants in the democratic process.
True progress is achieved when citizens and political leadership walk hand-in-hand toward a shared vision of prosperity.
Let us use this day to renew our vows to Nigeria. Though our democratic journey has faced its share of turbulence, our faith in a united, prosperous, and democratic nation must never waver.
