Senator Ovie Omo-Agege
Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori
• Says hold Gov. Oborevwori responsible in case…
•Stop the campaign of calumny, embrace issue based politics – Delta APC
From our Bureau Chief, Asaba
As the political parties prepare to officially swing into campaigns for votes in the January general election next year, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has raised the alarm over alleged threats to his life and that of his family members.
The immediate past deputy president of the 9th Senate of Nigeria, and Senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Delta Central, on Thursday, 20 August, 2026 directly accused the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori saying; he should be held responsible.
Omo-Agege raised the alarm making his accusation in a statement he signed and posted on his Facebook page.

I note with grave concern the disturbing and increasingly credible threats to my life and my family members in Delta State emanating from the Delta State Government House, Asaba.
As I commence the campaigns, beginning today with stops in Uvwie Local Government Area, and the other seven (7) Local Government Areas, I want the Nigerian public, the international community, civil-society organisations, the media, and all security agencies to take formal notice:
Should anything untoward happen to me or members of my family, the Nigerian people and more particularly the Urhobo people of Delta Central senatorial district should HOLD the Governor of Delta State Elder Sheriff Oborevwori responsible and accountable.
APC Reacts
In a swift reply, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State, denied the accusation on behalf of the Governor; saying; it was “a well-orchestrated media campaign of calumny against the Governor and our great party.”
The APC made the denial in a statement signed by Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq.
State Publicity Secretary of the Party, and circulated amongst journalists in Asaba, the State Capital.
The Party says it finds the alarm and accusation highly irresponsible and reprehensible.
While pointing out; that it was a cheap attempt to attract unnecessary attention, manufacture public sympathy, and distract from the real issues before the people of Delta State.
The Party therefore urged Sen. Omo-Agege to desist from what it describes as a needless smear campaign, and focus on the issues.

The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State, has been drawn to yet another press statement issued by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, alleging threats to his life.
We note with increasing disappointment that this latest statement follows the now-familiar pattern of fruitless attempts by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege to smear the image of His Excellency, Rt. Hon.(Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, through a well-orchestrated media campaign of calumny against the Governor and our great party.
We find this highly irresponsible and reprehensible.
Delta APC categorically rejects, in its entirety, any insinuation that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Governor, or even our great party has anything whatsoever to do with any alleged threat against Sen.Omo-Agege or his family.
His Excellency, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, swore to protect the lives and properties of every Deltan, and it is unthinkable for anyone to make such an uncouth statement for the purposes of political relevance.
The Omo-Agege’s latest allegation that threats to his life and that of his family members are emanating from the Delta State Government is, in our view, unbecoming of the character of a man who once occupied the position of Deputy President of the Senate and is a cheap attempt to attract unnecessary attention, manufacture public sympathy, and distract from the real issues before the people of Delta State.
It is unfortunate that Sen. Omo-Agege has chosen unfounded allegations and personal attacks over issues, policies, and ideas.
As a former senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Omo-Agege knows the gravity of such allegations.
Despite our repeated calls, Sen. Omo-Agege has failed to provide any credible evidence of a threat to his life to the appropriate security agencies for investigation.
Instead, he has continued to make reckless and politically motivated statements designed to impugn the image and reputation of the Governor without any substantial evidence whatsoever.

The reasonable conclusion to be drawn from these ludicrous and spurious press statements is that both Sen. Omo-Agege and his political party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), are bereft of any credible campaign strategies or ideas to counter the superlative performance of the administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, which has delivered unprecedented infrastructural development in a little over three years in office.
Confronted with the compelling reality of the administration’s achievements, Sen. Omo-Agege and the NDC, with nothing to campaign with, have, in desperation, resorted to baseless accusations and political theatrics, apparently designed to mask the undeniable reality of their rejection among the electorates of Delta State.
We urge Sen. Omo-Agege to desist from this needless smear campaign and focus on the issues.
Delta APC will remain resolute in defending the integrity of the leader of our great party, the APC, Governor Oborevwori and the party against every malicious attempt to mislead the public or tarnish their image for narrow political gains.
We also urge Senator Omo-Agege to face his opponent in the forthcoming election, Senator Ede Dafinone and stop his unprovoked attack on our performing Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori.
For the records, Governor Oborevwori is not on the Delta Central Senatorial ballot with Senator Omo-Agege.
