The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, on behalf of the State Government has renewed its appeal to members of the public for assistance; in the search for the family of an elderly woman found abandoned along the Airport road, in Benin-City.

The woman simply identified as Madam Esther, was brought to the Ministry by officers of the Edo State Police Command on April 7, 2026, after she was found abandoned and apparently without anyone to care for her.

Daisy Osunde, the director of media in the Ministry, made this known in a press release circulated amongst journalists in Benin, weekend.

Upon her arrival at the Ministry, efforts were immediately initiated to trace her family and facilitate her reunion with her loved ones, it was said.

The narrative further stated; “As part of these efforts, the Ministry took her to a private television station to publicise her situation and appeal for information from members of the public who might recognise her or know her family.

“However, months after the initial appeal, no family member or relative has come forward to identify or claim her.

“To ensure her safety, dignity and continued well-being, the Ministry subsequently facilitated her placement at Ofure Home for the Elderly, where she is currently receiving care, protection and support.

“The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, is therefore renewing the Ministry’s appeal to members of the public, traditional and community leaders, religious organisations, residents of Benin City and anyone who may recognise Madam Esther to assist in tracing her family.”

This is as the Honourable Commissioner was quoted to have emphasised; that every elderly person deserves dignity, compassion and care.

While She restated; that the Ministry remains committed to protecting vulnerable persons and facilitating the reunification of abandoned or vulnerable individuals with their families.

“Anyone with information about Madam Esther or her family is urged to contact the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Benin City.

“The Ministry also appeals to members of the public to share this publication widely, as the information may reach someone who knows Madam Esther or her relatives and can help reunite her with her family.”
