As Gov Okpebholo asserts we are changing the narratives in Edo

From our Bureau Chief, Benin

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State Chapter, has officially launched its campaign for the State’s Local Government Council election slated for 11 July, 2026.

The campaign launch which was held in Benin-City, the State Capital attracted a massive crowd of the Party’s faithful and supporters.

Addressing the crowd, the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo declared: “we are changing the narratives in Edo!”

He said the APC with the carefully selected youthful candidates; is transferring power to the new generation of leaders, who are trusted to drive the process for the Party even in the 2027 general elections.

“These are young and vibrant youths, the people that will drive the process even in the 2027 general election.”

Urging everyone to go to the grassroots and work for the victory of the APC and its candidates in the July 11 Council election, Okpebholo declared; that it would be a test case for the more demanding general election of January 2027 in Edo having promised to deliver for the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2.5million votes.

The deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa spoke in the same vein praising the APC for believing and trusting the youths for leadership.

Emperor Jarret Tenebe speaking as the State Chairman of the Party in Edo, expressed the excitement with the youthfulness of the candidates.

The APC is already handing over the leadership’s baton to the youths now; against the usual saying; the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, Tenebe held. “Tomorrow begins now with our carefully elected youthful candidates.”

He boasted that the APC remains the Party to beat in the July 11 election as all others are pretenders, even as the next month election would be used as a test case for what to expect in the January general election, in the State.

“All other political parties are dead here and that is because APC is in Government and Edo is shining.”

Particularly tackling the Sen. Seriake Dickson – led newly registered National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tenebe said it is not worth a political party to follow.

“The NDC is not a political party you have to follow because the leader of that party, was a local wrestler in Bayelsa State before they put money together and made him a policeman.

“…And he is training wrestlers in Edo. But we are also ready to match them one on one.”

Jarret further charged the candidates to replicate the good works of the Governor in their various Local Government Council areas, when they must have gotten victory in the July 11 election.

He added, that they like the Governor and leaders past, must also accord the traditional institutions their due recognition and respect, for the very important roles they play in society.

Also speaking, former deputy governor of Edo State, Hon. Pius Egberamwen Odubu asserts; “We are just testing the microphone, we have not started, when we start and they see the APC coming, they will run away”.

He added, Governor Okpebholo’s administration in less than two years is working for the people and the only way to reward him, is to vote for his Party during election.

Odubu expressed the confidence; the APC would sweep the polls with the people oriented works of the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo speaking for the Party and its candidates.

He therefore urged, that all the candidates and Party members should go back home and work in unity of purpose, taking the message of the good works of the Governor across the State, to the grassroots.

Continuing, Chairman of the APC, Egor Council area, Iyase noted that the turn out of party faithful and supporters indicates what to expect in the January 2027 general election.

He urged them to go back home and win more support for the party and its candidates to ensure victory for the APC in the local council elections.

One after the other, the Party leaders addressed the crowd using the people orientated works of the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo as the launchpad to drive home their messages of delivering the APC and its candidates in the Council election, and the January general election.

Further, the various speakers assert that with the massive crowd turn out, it is obvious that the APC is the only existing, viable, and organised political party positioned to win election in the State.

As the Party prides itself for having carefully elected at its primary, vibrant and youthful candidates to take over leadership at the third tier of government in the State, with the Governor asserting; it was a part of the changing of the narratives in Edo.

The LGC election campaign launch will be subsequently taken to Edo Central, and the North zone of the State
