Ahead of the July 11 Local Government Council elections in Edo State, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is basking in the euphoria of a peaceful primary conducted on Friday, 3 April, 2026 across the 18 Council area and 192 Wards.
The exercise has produced the Party’s candidates for both the chairmanship and councillors’ position in all the 18 Local council areas, and 192 wards.
Addressing journalists in Benin, the Chairman, State committee for the party primary, Mohammed Bello said the APC adopted the direct primary principle of consensus and affirmation.
Adding; that reports from the various Local council Committees say the exercise was seamlessly conducted and rancour free.
Bello in the excitement of the successful exercise asserts; that the APC is a Party that sees tomorrow as the future belongs to it; even as opposition has fizzled out in Edo State, hence it will continue to win.
Also, the Party’s State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe while speaking asserts; the outcome of the exercise is “a testament and fervent reminder of our Party’s commitment to democratic principles.”
Which he said “has helped to reshape and deepened internal democratic culture and mutual cohesion and unity amongst esteemed members.”
The APC envisioned a system of inclusivity and strict adherence to the principles of equity and fairness, which the State Chairman acknowledged; are the best global practices.
Continuing, the Chairman pointed out that in-spite of being the Party in government, the APC is making a conscious effort to change what he termed: ‘ugly narrative’ and build a system that connotes transparency and profound political objectivity.
This is a great departure from the immediate past in which the Government in place, “wilfully refused, neglected and deliberately failed to give the mandate that was transparently won by the candidates of the APC.”
Congratulating the candidates, Tenebe reminded; “these tickets are a call to duty and must work assiduously to ensure victory at the polls for the APC across the council areas, and the 192 wards.”
Now; the APC is strategically positioned to participate in the local council elections, Tenebe declared.
While commending the various committees for a job excellently done; he acknowledged the good jobs the governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration is doing in the State; which he claimed has turned the APC a beautiful bride of all Edo people.
